OpenAI has extended Codex's remote control capabilities to Windows 10 and 11 systems, enabling users to initiate and monitor AI coding tasks directly from their mobile devices while introducing a new "Computer Use" feature for automated desktop interaction.
OpenAI announced on May 29 that its Codex AI coding assistant now supports remote control functionality on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems, allowing users to manage their desktop workflows directly from mobile devices.
The update enables iPhone and Android users to launch and monitor Codex tasks on their Windows computers through the ChatGPT mobile application, mirroring the existing Mac compatibility. Users can remotely initiate coding operations and track real-time progress without physically accessing their PCs.
Concurrent with the Windows expansion, OpenAI introduced the "Computer Use" feature, which allows Codex to directly interact with desktop applications on Windows systems. This capability functions as an automated remote assistance tool, enabling the AI to "see" the screen, click interface elements, and input text to manipulate foreground applications.
The Computer Use functionality eliminates the need for manual intervention during repetitive interface operations. Codex can autonomously navigate through applications, execute commands, and complete routine tasks by simulating human-like interactions with the graphical user interface.
