The AI tool provides fans with intelligent basketball Q&A, including tactical breakdowns and player data analysis, and is now available in the NBA China app.
NBA China has officially launched its first large language model, 'NBA Chat', developed in collaboration with Alibaba and powered by the company's Qwen model. The announcement coincides with the start of the NBA Finals, and the service is now accessible to fans through the NBA China app.
According to Alibaba Cloud, the model has been fine-tuned using NBA's extensive digital assets, including historical basketball data and in-depth player analysis. Currently, NBA Chat offers intelligent Q&A services for basketball enthusiasts, with plans to enhance its Agent capabilities in the future. For example, if fans don't understand a team's on-court tactics, they can ask NBA Chat for a breakdown. Similarly, after a thrilling game, users can request a recap to understand key player positions, scoring data, and other core statistics.
This initiative builds on the existing partnership between NBA China and Alibaba, which was established last October when Alibaba became the official cloud computing and AI partner of NBA China. During last year's NBA China Games, Alibaba Cloud also demonstrated its 360-degree real-time replay technology, which uses AI algorithms to precisely capture player movements and generate high-quality replay footage from a 360-degree perspective.
The launch of NBA Chat marks a significant step in integrating AI into sports entertainment, providing fans with deeper insights and interactive experiences.
