Background
Moonshot AI previously released Kimi K2.6 in April 2026, which brought comprehensive upgrades in code generation, long-horizon task execution, and agent cluster capabilities, and was open-sourced. The Kimi K2 model series originally debuted in July 2025, featuring a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture with 1 trillion total parameters and 32 billion activated parameters, optimized for coding and general-purpose agent tasks. In September 2025, an updated version (0905) extended the context length from 128K to 256K and provided faster API responses.
