Humanoid Robots Master Horseback Archery and Xinjiang Cuisine in Latest 'Energy Transfer' Challenge

Humanoid robots are pushing the boundaries of mobility and dexterity, recently tackling horseback archery and the delicate culinary art of making Xinjiang pulled noodles. These feats were part of the "Energy Transfer" live-action challenge held on July 15 in Xinjiang, serving as a prelude to the upcoming 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games.
In the scenic regions of Sayram Lake and Liuxing Street in Yining, robots demonstrated unprecedented skills. For the first time in the humanoid robotics field, machines successfully attempted horseback archery. Culinary challenges included making "Latiaozi" (pulled noodles), where robots utilized tactile sensors on their hands to feel the dough's resilience and adjust their pulling force accordingly based on cross-cutting force feedback. The robots also showcased their ability to skewer and grill meat.
However, the demonstrations highlighted the current transition phase of the technology. Observers noted that data collectors were operating the robots via remote control to help complete these complex sequences. This teleoperation is crucial for gathering the massive amounts of data needed to improve the robots' autonomous scene adaptation in the future.
This Xinjiang event marks the third domestic stop of the "Energy Transfer" challenge, following tea picking in Fujian and dragon boat racing in Sichuan. The initiative aims to integrate cutting-edge robotics into traditional culture and everyday production scenarios.
The main event, the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games, is scheduled for August 22-26, 2026, at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the "Ice Ribbon." Co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Government, China Media Group, and other international robotics organizations, the five-day event will feature over 30 competitive categories.
